World War Z

This review is a little late considering the movie was released more than a month ago. I watched it today and it was superb! So, here’s my review, better late than never.

Many of you may have already seen the movie by now but for the sake of those who haven’t seen it I’ll try not to write any spoilers.images

World War Z is an end of the world/horror film. The world gets over run by zombies and the story followers the life of Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) and his family as they try to survive.

I’ll break down into points what I like about the movie.

1. First of all the plot was great. The story was good and it was fast. The movie does not slow down at any point and they have done a really good job by not including scenes that seem out-of-place.

2. The revamp of our ideas on zombies. The ones in this can run really fast and jump and break down doors and that makes them extra scary.

3. The suspense. I haven’t seen any movie in a while that has so many points where it makes you think “OMG,Whats gona hapen now!! ”

Here’s a short outline of the story. Gerry Lane, a former UN employee gets stuck in middle of traffic along with his family when the outbreak hits the city. The number of infected rise rapidly as each person who gets bit turns into a zombie. The family escapes to Newark and later gets rescued and is taken to a fleet of US Navy vessels. Gerry is asked to accompany a scientist to find the source of the outbreak.

They travel to South Korea and are attacked by zombies. They get rescued by survivors in the base. Gerry learns that he needs to go to Jerusalem because it looks like the people there knew about the chance of the outbreak beforehand. The safe zone there also comes under attack a short while after Gerry gets there. He makes it out on a plane but is injured when the plane crashes. Okay. That’s all from me. One last line for the outline – they find a way to fight back.

It was a really, really good movie to watch and I loved the suspense. Those of you who haven’t seen it yet put it on your list and watch it soon.

Will read the book soon and I’ll a review of that too.

Sunday Song # 8

Song : “Breakeven” by  The Script

This is another of my favorite bands. The Script is an Irish band from Dublin who released their first album in 2008.Most of their songs are about heartbreak and lost love but they don’t use sad music and use good beats instead. I like the lead singer’s voice and their lyrics.

The song below is my favorite from the band as of now. I love the lyrics and the music. It is from their first album. The music at the starting of the song used to be my ringtone. They released their third album last year and it looks just as good as the ones before.

Other songs that you might like:

  • For the first time
  • The man who can’t be moved
  • Nothing
  • Millionaires
  • If you ever come back
  • Hall of fame
  • Six degrees of separation

Sunday Song # 7

Song  : Harlem by New Politics.

Most of the time I prefer songs with great to moderately good lyrics but some time all I want is good music. Great beats, fun tune, in short music that you can just listen to feel good and maybe dance a little.

Two days ago I heard the song “Harlem” playing on AXN and loved the music instantly, the lyrics weren’t that bad either.  New Politics is a rock band from Copenhagen, Denmark. Their music is mainly alternative rock, pop and punk.I have listened to some of their songs and I’ve mentioned some of the goods ones below.

Other songs :

  • Tonight You are Perfect
  • Dignity
  • Give me hope
  • Stuck on you

The Walking Dead Season 4 Preview

After three awesome seasons it’s sure that this is one of the best shows on TV. The next season of  The Walking dead is set to premiere in October. It’s feels like a long time doesn’t it??

From the look of the trailer there is going to be a lot more action, lot more walkers and definitely a lot more thrills and scares. There are new characters, the protection of the prison seems to be failing and someone is letting walkers (a.k.a Zombies) into the cell blocks.

They seem to be showing a lot of Daryl Dixon in the trailer. I really hope that the same will be true for the show. Everyone in the cast is really good but for me Norman Reedus is the best!!

Enjoy the trailer!!

Characterization

I had an exam yesterday, another attempt at finding a job. I’m not a fan of exams but there is one thing that I find interesting about these situations. It’s the people there. I might not mix up that well but I always end up finding one or two people and end up having a good time(exam not counted as good time).
It’s funny to see people behaving different ways. From what I’ve seen the people there tend to behave in one of four ways. Lets just separate them into characters.

Character 1  : I’m nervous & I’ll make sure you are nervous too!

Every exam has these kind. Some are so nervous that they’ll be sweating like crazy, as if they came just after a marathon.  These kind just come up to you and start discussing their fears.  Two guesses as to why they do it A) They believe sharing will make them less scared or B) They hate people who are happy and believe people are better off being nervous wrecks.

Character 2 :The ” I know everything ” type.

These kind of people tend to behave in two different ways.
A) They see exams as life or death battles and strongly believe that standing alone and reading and rereading points till the moment the exam starts is the right thing to do. You usually find them in corners of the corridor or exam room as far away from others as possible so that they don’t get disturbed.
B) They move around and try to intimidate people and tell them how much they have studied- the different books, the number of hours and every other bring detail. Do they really think others care?

Character 3 : Whatever happens, happens

These people know it’s an exam and where smart enough to at-least study a little bit. They have done their part and will just give the exam and go back home. They don’t bother you with worries or show off that they have swallowed five different text books. I prefer to stay with people of this group. I get to meet some nice people and have good time no matter how the exams goes.

Character 4 : I’m screwed anyway so why not have a good time.

The ones that apply for the exam, forget about until the day before and show up just for fun to meet people, talk, make friends, roam around the campus and sit and smile in the exam hall.

I usually belong to Character 3 but have played the part of 4 in a couple of exams.

That’s all for know. See you tomorrow!

Sunday Song# 6

Song: Somebody that I used to know(Cover) by Walk Off The Earth.

This band is more famous for their covers of songs by other artists. From what I’ve seen the best cover is of Gotye’s – “Somebody that I used to know” because not only is their vocals good but the whole band is also playing one single guitar simultaneously to create the background music.

They released an EP in 2012 and these are the best songs from it : “Red Hands”
and “Gang of Rhythm”.What I like about their songs is that they always have really good background music.  Listen and enjoy.

Life As A Wanderer

I like the idea of a living a nomadic life.  In-fact I  prefer it to living at one place. It would be nice to have a home base but that is not completely necessary. The picture that comes to mind when I  hear the word nomad is of camels and tents.I don’t intent on living like that. I’ll prefer some kind of lodging , nothing big just something to live in for a while.Travel

Growing up I moved around a lot. I’ve lived in five different cities in three different states and studied in six different schools. I am living in the same city for that last ten years and it’s driving me a little crazy. I can’t live anywhere for a long period of time, and by long I mean two or three years. After a while there is nothing left to see in the city, nothing new to experience.

There is a pure pleasure in exploring a new city. Seeing things for the first time, the food, the way of life, the people, the buildings and the sights. Everything about a new city is so exciting. It’s like a gift waiting to be unwrapped. You have no idea what to expect when you turn a corner.

It’s better if you can actually stay in a place for some time, say a year or two, instead of being a tourists that stays a week. As a tourist we just follow a map and flock to the sights that are known to be famous. Every city has much more to offer. Hidden gems that only those who stay long enough get to know.

I’m a light traveler. Everything I need to live can be packed in one bag. Well, if I am going to be a nomad then I guess I’ll pack two bags( a little more things if you have no home-base). I might have to leave behind all my books but I’ll switch over to kindle or something.

I hope I get to at-least travel a lot more in the future even if I don’t actually became a nomad. Just pack my bags, meet new people, enjoy new food and explore a new place.

Written as a response to Daily Prompt: Rolling Stone (If you could live a nomadic life, would you? Where would you go? How would you decide? What would life be like without a “home base”?)

P.S  The Daily Prompt for July 20th is almost the same so I’m using the same post with a little addition that’s given below.

The prompt has an another question in it – What makes a place “home” to you?

For me home is any place where I can be happy.I’m not saying I have to be happy 24/7 but if the life there is good then any place can be considered as home.
